Workshops + Events

Throughout the summer Cloverdale Forge works to strengthen the blacksmithing community by offering basic and advanced blacksmith workshops. Workshops are open to individuals over the age of 18 and our events, such as Forge and Forum are open to all ages interested in honing their forging abilities. Forge and Forum

Held annually on the first Saturday of June, a visiting blacksmith will demonstrate and share informative tips that blacksmiths at any stage of learning can use to improve their skills. Forge and Forum is an excellent way to learn more about the craft and connect with folks who are interested in swinging a hammer.

Blacksmithing Foundations

This workshop centers on core blacksmithing techniques. Participants will start with fire maintenance and quickly gain an understanding of how to manipulate iron through the essentials of tapering, upsetting, slitting, and drifting.

Intermediate Blacksmithing

During this three-day intermediate workshop participants will each forge and assemble a small project of their own design. Traditional techniques for designing, forging, joinery, and forming hot steel will be discussed and demonstrated throughout the weekend. We ask that interested participants have previously taken a Cloverdale Forge workshop in the past.

Chisels, Punches, and Tongs

During this workshop, students will learn how to forge, harden, and temper their own punches, chisels, and tongs – all essential blacksmithing tools! Although it is not required, we ask that interested participants have previously taken a Cloverdale Forge workshop in the past.

Build Your Own Forge

Forges are a necessary tool for those looking to build a backyard blacksmith shop. In this workshop, students will assemble their own forge so they can practice hammering at home whenever their schedule allows.

Handles and Hinges

In this workshop, students will forge one of the blacksmith’s most requested items, door hardware. Starting with strap hinges and building the skills to forge a thumb latch assembly, students can complete all the hardware to get your door swinging. Although not required we highly encourage those interested in this class to have taken a Blacksmith Foundations Workshop in the past.
